How it was created…
I programmed an Arduino motor to move the petals in a specific alternating pattern. The flowering head was first created in illustrator and then laser cut on acrylic. The stem of the flower is metal and was welded together to hold the flower and the two turning pieces of the motor.
The dirt and roots of the flower are the motors and the circuit board. They sit unhidden in a typical flower pot. The petals of the flower, and the head of it, are usually what is focused on. Instead of the roots and dirt and stalk that do so much to allow the plant to flower. The flower cannot blossom without them, and the machine cannot function without the wires and motors connected to it.
